People With Orthopedic Conditions Invited to Try Wheelchair Basketball At a Free Have a Go Day
| Sep 04, 2014 |
In honour of Arthritis Awareness Month, BC Wheelchair Basketball Society invites people with arthritis and other orthopedic conditions to try wheelchair basketball at a special Have a Go Day. The session will be run by Paralympic bronze medalist Arley McNeney, who has arthritis and avascular necrosis.
Even if you can walk, wheelchair basketball is a fun, low-impact way to get active, especially for those whose arthritis impacts their hips, knees, ankles or feet. In fact, 40% of all wheelchair basketball players in BC are able-bodied or minimally disabled, and some of Canada’s best wheelchair basketball players (including Paralympians like Joey Johnson and Canadian junior national team member Jack Kosterman) have orthopedic conditions.
Come experience all the fun of basketball without the pain!
When: September 23rd, 6 – 7:30
Where: Steveston Community Center, 4111 Moncton St., Richmond, B.C.
Ages: 13+ (but contact us if your child with arthritis is interested in playing, since we can refer him or her to a junior program)
Cost: Free! All equipment is provided.
