On Thursday May 19th eight corporate and community teams gathered at the Richmond Oval for BC Wheelchair Basketball Society's largest fundraiser of the year: Hoopfest 2016, presented by YVR.  

The atmopshere at the Oval was one of excitement, comradery and competitive spirit. Teams alternated between playing 15 minute full-court games, mingling with other participants, trying their luck at the BC Lions Football Toss, browsing the raffle table, scarfing down dinner and enjoying the tasty beverages provided by Steamworks Brewery and Blasted Church Winery. BC Lions Alumni and overall amazing guy Marco Iannuzzi kept the crowd chuckling with his witty banter as the emcee for the evening. 

The 'Friends of BC Wheelchair Basketball' team was crowned Hoopfest 2016 champions after narrowly beating the Burnaby Fire Fighters in an intense overtime gold medal game. The winning team was comprised of a mixture of current athletes (Sarah Friedman, Colin Huppee, Ben Garrett, Ben Hagkull, Tanner Jung, Matthew Norris, Arnold Cheng) and celebrity guests (MLA Gordon Hogg, basketball superstar Tiffany Hogg, defensive machine Steve Garrett and terrific supporter Dean Stoney).

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society would like to extend a HUGE thank you to anyone and everyone who supported Hoopfest 2016! Funds raised allow us to continue to run programs/tournaments/leagues, provide equipment and advocate for inclusive sport opportunities for British Columbians with a physical disability.
