Competitive Games Played at Breakers and Be Squad Invitational
On the May 7/8 weekend, BCWBS in conjunction with Trinity Western University hosted an exhibition tournament. This tournament consisted of two parts: BC Breakers tournament and Be Squad tournament.
BC Breakers Tournament:
The tournament was hosted as BC Breakers got ready for the impending National Championships. Teams from Seattle and Japan came out to play in some very hotly contested battles, and enjoy the hospitality of the Spartans of TWU. Match of the weekend was between the Breakers and the team from Japan, that included 4 of Japanese national team players, on Sunday that went into overtime. The visiting club team came out as victors, but taught the British Columbians some valuable end game lessons. Seattle team also fought well against both Breakers and Japan. This very young team showed that they are full of potentails and we are looking forward to meeting them again next season.
The Breakers would like to thank the folks at Trinity Western, Subway, volunteers, and Makiko for all their hard work in putting together the tournament. We look to expanding it next year!

Be Squad Tournament:
Players came from across the province to participate with the men's provincial team program in the Be Squad Invitational. Areas represented included Victoria, Prince George, Kelowna, Kamloops, Fraser Valley, and the Lower Mainland. The Be Squad put in two teams and hosted teams from Tacoma, Seattle, as well as the Alberta provincial team with highly competitive games taking place throughout the tournament held at Trinity Western University. The high performance athletes were a mixture of experienced players, those preparing for their first national championship, and others who have helped strengthen the level of basketball in BC. This was extremely evident in the final game of the tournament when the Be Squad took on the Alberta men's provincial team and was able to have a convincing win against these formidable opponents.
This event concluded the Be Squad schedule for the season. The coaching team has seen many players demonstrate great improvement throughout the year and it is great to see BC Wheelchair Basketball Society working with other programs in the Northwest to provide ongoing competition as we all strive to become better wheelchair basketball players. Another highlight of the weekend was the opportunity for these athletes to be mentored by some of BC's best: Ross MacDonald, Bo Hedges, and Jaimie Borisoff.
