The last season’s Division 2 Champions, Vancouver Cable Cars defended their provincial title this season, beating the Classics 82-74, in a hard fought championship match last Sunday (March 8.)

BCWBS hosted the 2015 BC-CWBL Division 2 Finals on March 7 & 8. The tournament was held at Douglas College in New Westminster on Saturday, and at Trinity Western University in Langley on Sunday. Seven teams from across BC including one from Washington USA got together to compete the finals matches of the Division 2 league this season.

Tournament favorites, Classics and Cable Cars secured the first place in each pool after the round robins. Last year’s runner up and young force Gold Rush faced Classics which included a few veteran players at the semi- final. Although Gold Rush came back from 18 points down to 4 points, the Classics finished strong by beating Gold Rush 83-64. Classics faced Cable Cars who beat Tacoma in the semi-final at the Championship game. Cable Cars had a head-start finishing the first period 18-15. Classics stayed right behind Cable Cars through entire game, however, never was able to fill the gap they had in the 1st half. The game concluded 82-74 with the Cable Cars’ championship victory.

Gold Rush had a solid game against Tacoma in the third place game, winning 60-48. Kamloops secured the 5th place by beating their rival Victoria in a nail biter with the scores of 50-49. Many of the games this weekend, even in the round robins were close and very exciting, entertaining our spectators. 

Congratulations to the Vancouver Cable Cars and the tournament All-Stars, MVP, and the league awards winners. Congratulations also go to all the players and team supporters for another great season.
